Captains of Industry Edition

Temitope / 2 Jun, 2025

At first thought of who a captain is, the first thing that comes to mind is AUDACIOUS! OPEN TO BIG THINKING THAT KNOWS NO BOUNDS! and Captains with years of experience. Na collabo! in genz words, but the real collaboration was Mentor Intro Africa and Woodhall Capital Foundation. We brought together 40 changemakers ready to do disruptive things.

The opening session began with Mrs. Mojisola Hunponu-Wusu giving the mentees wonderful lessons like: "You don't need anyone's validation to do that which God has put in your heart to achieve." I mean, how powerful is that? In a world where everyone is looking for validation, here was someone telling these industry leaders to just go ahead and be great.

The four-week virtual sessions included Mr. Idorenyen Enang emphasizing the three G's: Guts, Grit, and Grace. He made it clear that if you want to be a captain of industry, you can't be playing it safe. This man came with energy that was just infectious.

We had another session with Dr. Jonathan Okoakih who offered the secret to success as giving intense attention to your intention. He summed it up by saying that if you want to be taller than your neighbor, get on your knees often and talk to God.
Event and Response equals Outcome. If you keep doing what you've always done, you'll keep getting what you've always gotten. This hit differently for everyone in the room.

Another monumental session focused on how to connect the dots and build influence and relationships. Pastor Wale broke down the concept of influence and how the greatest resource influence gives is access to people. The way he explained it made so much sense—it's not just about what you know, it's about who you can reach.

To crown it all with a befitting graduation ceremony, we had one more powerful closing ceremony with a keynote address from Mr. Chris Ofikulu, the E.D of Polaris Bank. Another powerful session by Mrs. Mojisola Hunponu-Wusu, who challenged the mentees to not just go through this program but also take others in as their mentees. That's the real test right there - can you pour into someone else what has been poured into you?

A wonderful speed mentorship session was facilitated by Onyinyechi Aderibigbe, Head, Brands and Marketing, and Dabota Lawson, Visionary founder of Dabota House of Beauty and Dabota Cosmetics, who both took our mentees on public speaking and branding, and marketing. These women came through with practical advice that our mentees could use immediately.

We celebrated our mentees with certificates of completion and awards for excellence, and we recognized our valedictorian, who truly represented the spirit of what this program was all about.

But honestly, seeing these 40 people transform over six weeks was something else. They came in as mentees, and they're leaving as future mentors. They came in looking for direction, and they're leaving with the tools to direct others. That's what happens when you get the right people in a room with the right mindset and the right mentors.

This collaboration between Mentor Intro Africa and Woodhall Capital Foundation proved that when you bring together experience and ambition, magic happens. These aren't just graduates - these are the people who are going to shake up their industries and make waves.

The program is over, but the real work is just beginning. These captains are now out there, ready to be audacious and think big. And honestly? I can't wait to see what they do next.

Want to be part of the next cohort? Stay plugged in. The journey from mentee to mentor starts with one bold step.
